Who is Arnaud Génin?
Arnaud Génin, currently ranked 63 in the world, was the big surprise of the 12. Austrian Open – World Tour Finals presented by GRAWE sidebyside. The Frenchman managed to win the ECO SECURE Men Elite Singles competition in Vienna to claim his first elite-title on the FIR Racketlon World Tour. In the final he defeated Finland’s Luka Penttinen +15 (TT: 6-21, BA: 21-3, SQ: 21-13, TE: 11-7). In round two he eliminated the European Champion Rav Rykowsky from Poland +5 (TT: 18-21, BA: 21-7, SQ: 6-21, TE: 21-12).
His biggest challenge and his goals
The former professional badminton player from Montpellier discovered Racketlon some years ago. Arnaud: „During the off-season in badminton, I used to play squash.“ A good starting point for a successful racketlon-career! Génin’s physical strength is part of his success. „Physically he was much better than me. He earned to win“, said Luka after the final about his opponent. Arnaud: „I love to fight for every point, to take risks and play offensive in squash and tennis. The biggest challenge for me is to play fast but safe in badminton.“ His weakness? „Obviously table tennis! It has gotten better – but there is still a lot room for improvement. Until the next season takes off, I will be even stronger“, says the Frenchman. In 2019 he wants to play regularly on the FIR Racketlon World Tour and collect some more titles!
Another strong Frenchman coming up
Let’s keep our eyes on Arnaud Génin and the French Racketlon team; as Arnaud’s closest match in Vienna was the quarter final against his teammate Sylvain Ternon +3 (TT: 21-17, BA: 21-19, SQ: 20-22, TE: 18-19)! Let’s take into account that Sylvain’s bag was stolen at the railway station, and that he had to play the tournament with borrowed rackets… There is another strong Frenchman planing to do some damage on the FIR World Tour!
