Klosterneuburg on the Champions League podium
On 28 and 29 July 2017 the last rounds of the FIR Champions League took place in Nußloch. Essential to the new Champions League format was that the participating teams were able to choose their players in a live selection process – similar to the North American professional sports leagues. The Champions League was held on two weekends: one in February in Malmö (SWE) and one in July in Nußloch (GER). The Racketlon Federation Austria was represented in the Champions League 2017 by Klosterneuburg Racketlonshop Austria. The team of captain Lukas Windischberger was ranked on sixth position after the first rounds. Klosterneuburg won three of the four rounds last weekend and was only defeated by the later Champions iPro Sports London. Klosterneuburg finished third, behind London, KoR Oudenaarde (BEL) and in front of Tecnifibre Copenhagen (DEN).
Windischberger wins after catastrophic start
The Men’s Singles Elite champion of the IWT German Open is Lukas Windischberger. The world number two defeated the world number four Morten Jaksland (DEN) after loosing the first discipline of Table Tennis 6:21. Lukas took Badminton 21:5 and had the lead after two sports. “I have not had any great hopes, because I usually make more points in the Table Tennis against Morten and he more in Badminton against me. But I was so relaxed and I played Badminton and Squash extremely well. You have always to believe in the possible victory in Racketlon.” The result: +12 (TT: 6-21, BA: 21-5, SQ: 21-4, TE: 4-10). “I feel physically really good. I’m tired but I do not have any pain and am absolutely positive for the European Championships”, said the champion.
